And the Liebster Goes To….

January 28, 2013 , , , , , , , , , ,

45 looks surprisedWhat’s a Liebster, you ask? Frankly, I had to look it up…this is what I found. The Liebster Blog Award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. “Liebster” is German for “favorite”. This award is the “favorite blog award” then.

Thank you to fellow blogger, Dr. Sayers (author of What Kids Want Us to Know), for nominating me for a Liebster Award. I’m honored and, yet, I’m not sure what it means exactly. I’m going to go with the fact that someone enjoys my blog enough to “favor” it. Done! Thank you! Goodnight! (my limo is waiting to take me to the Vanity Fair party and I really can’t breathe in this dress)

Now, although the Liebster is far less lucrative than the Pulitzer or Nobel (thank you Dr. Sayers) the bloggers who’ve come before me speculate that the award is a way to spread a little blog love. I’m down with that. To accept the Liebster, I have to do 3 things. First, I have to answer 5 questions posed by Dr. Sayers. Then, I have to nominate 5 blogs I really like for the award, and those 5 blogs should have under 200 followers. Finally, I have to pose 5 questions for my nominees to answer. Whew! Ok, here goes!

Her Questions / My Answers

1. Assuming you are a reader as well as a writer, name two of your favorite protagonists, one male and one female.
MALE: It would have to be the male lead in, “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” by Robin Sharma. Julian Mantle, a lawyer forced to confront the spiritual crisis of his out-of-balance life. On a life-changing odyssey to an ancient culture, he discovers powerful, wise, and practical lessons that teach us to:

  • Develop Joyful Thoughts,
  • Follow Our Life’s Mission and Calling,
  • Cultivate Self-Discipline and Act Courageously,
  • Value Time as Our Most Important Commodity,
  • Nourish Our Relationships, and
  • Live Fully, One Day at a Time.

FEMALE: Elizabeth Gilbert from Eat Pray Love. She’s a smart spirited woman who fearlessly creates the space for a new life. Brave. Passionate. Funny. She is one person I would love to sit with in a cafe and indulge in a long chat over coffee.

2. What has been the (or one of the) most rewarding experience related to writing your blog?
Therapy! Dumping all of my inner craziness, rants, frustrations, concerns and bliss onto the cyberspacious pages of my blog without being concerned with who would read it and what they might think. One of the most fearless and freeing things I’ve ever done.

3. What is your favorite post in your own blog (or post that makes you proudest)?
I have quite a few favorites, but “She Gets Me,” epitomizes why I started blogging in the first place. Before working with my business coach and mentor, Peleg Top, I was struggling with self-loathing and had a real problem with my own voice. What I realize now is it wasn’t the actual sound of my voice that was so vexing. It was a bigger-picture thing. I had a story to tell and fear to overcome. I had to get real with myself. I needed to write down what so many other women were thinking, but afraid to admit.

4. What are some things you do besides blogging?
I can be found darting around Southern California in a mask and super cape fighting off injustice in between running a business, helping at my kids school, spending up at Trader Joe’s, working out or enjoying wine with friends. I also spend time on my private island with my husband where we hold down the sand in a catatonic state while being intravenously fed highly potent cocktails. (ok, so the island actually belongs to someone else)

5. If you had to give an acceptance speech for the Liebster award in front of a live audience, who would you thank and what would you wear?
I would thank my mother and I would wear my Polite as Fuck t-shirt — with Louboutin heels, of course. I would also have to thank my husband and girls, without whom I would have little blog fodder.

And the Nominees Are

I nominate the following blogs (in no particular order) because they will make you laugh till you cry and/or think till it hurts. See for yourself!

Creating Space 365

Rock Wife’s Guide

Wine and Cheese (Doodles)

Running with Martinis

Writes 4 Food

Now, you amazing 5 bloggers, you – here are your questions to answer:

1. Who are your favorite authors (one male and one female) and what’s one thing you’ve learned from them?

2. What has been the (or one of the) most rewarding experience related to writing your blog?

3. What is your favorite post in your own blog (or post that makes you proudest)?

4. What are some things you do besides blogging?

5. If you had to give an acceptance speech for the Liebster award in front of a live audience, who would you thank and what would you wear?

I can’t wait to read your responses and to see what blogs move you. Thanks again to Dr. Sayers for the nomination!

Stay sane, my friends.

Enjoyed your responses. I’ve read Gilbert’s book and will have to add Sharma’s to my wish list. Thanks for sharing! Keep calm and blog.
